At MPavilion, design and community go hand in hand—one of the main objectives of the MPavilion project, initiated in 2014 by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation, is to include people from all walks of life in conversations about how we build our cities and think about our collective future. We also love literature, collaborating with exciting Australian publishers through events each season and hosting the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards since 2016. This season, we also welcomed our inaugural Writer in Residence, Maddee Clark, who will be leading the MTALKS event Unreconciliatory landscapes on Wednesday 23 January, 12.30–2pm.

Now, you can drop into MPavilion and browse an incredible selection of books about design for all ages at our community design library! Housed onsite at MPavilion, the library is free to access when you stop by—grab a coffee from our Kiosk, take a seat in the shade of Carme Pinós’s majestic MPavilion and feast your eyes on some wonderful titles. From books by and about our past architects, including Rem Koolhaas, Sean Godsell and Bijoy Jain, to Rob Adams AM’s latest text, Urban Choreography: Central Melbourne 1985–, and Robin Boyd’s Living In Australia, there’s something for every architecture and design enthusiast.

Little ones aren’t left out, either, with a range of beautifully illustrated kids’ books, including Julia Denos’s Windows and the New York Times bestsellers Rosie Revere’s Big Project Book for Engineers and  Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beatty and David Roberts, hands-on STEM project books for all ages.

You can also pick up a free copy of the latest edition of Assemble Papers at MPavilion. Focused on housing, the issue features an intriguing interview with MPavilion 2018 architect Carme Pinós as well as speakers from MPavilion’s annual sister event, the Living Cities Forum, which took place in July.

The MPavilion community design library is free to access during MPavilion’s opening hours. MPavilion is open every day except public holidays until Sunday 3 February 2019.
